Community is a priority for Kym Weathers Smith. On moving back to her hometown in 2013, she learned that an organization that she once benefitted from – Haven in Lee County – was in need of help. She started volunteering and soon joined the board. As Kym points out, domestic violence and sexual assault do not discriminate – it doesn’t matter what political party one belongs to, or one’s level of education, or what the household income is – anyone can become a victim, and Haven is there to help. Similarly, Kym believes that everyone can make a difference and that volunteering in even the simplest ways and the most mundane settings can help make our community a better place.
