The sustainable food and farming economy of North Carolina is Carol Hewitt’s priority, and financing that economy locally is her passion. Carol, one of five children from a musical Italian immigrant family, is the co-founder and executive director of Slow Money NC, an organization that allows her to play “matchmaker,” as she puts it – connecting local businesses and farms needing capital with those in the community who want to make a difference and who are in a position to lend. Her slogan – “we can do better than this” – is borne out of personal experience and thoughtful observation, and it informs her efforts on behalf of those in need locally as well as her views on global issues that affect all of us.
